Burt's Bees Style Lip Balm Recipe
Jamie Temple
Below is a recipe to make 12+ Burt's-Bees-style lip balms.
Ingredients (with Amazon links):
- 2 Tbsp Sunflower Oil
- 1.5 Tbsp Beeswax
- 1 Tbsp Cocoa Butter
- 1 drop of Lanolin (about the size of a beeswax pearl)
- 4 drops Vitamin E Oil
- 1 drop Rosemary Essential Oil (I used Plant Therapy Oils from my variety pack)
- 6 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
Equipment:
- Microwave-safe container (I used a Pyrex measuring cup)
- Dropper
- Stirring stick (I used a chopstick)
- Empty lip balm containers
- Tooth pick or thick needle (in case dropper gets clogged)
Instructions:
- Add sunflower oil, beeswax, cocoa butter, and lanolin to the microwave safe container
- Microwave the ingredients in 1-minute increments, stirring after each minute
- Once fully melted, add vitamin E oil, rosemary essential oil, and peppermint essential oil
- Use dropper to fill lip balm containers
- Reheat microwave-safe container if the mix begins to thicken
- Add leftover balm to a small container or continue filling additional tubes
Tips:
- Do not add thickened mix to lip balm containers or the resulting lip balm will feel flaky and not smooth.
- If you clog the dropper, use a toothpick or needle to clear it out (you can remove the back of the dropper). Or, submerge the dropper in hot water.
