HomeChef Meal Box Review and $30 Discount Code

HomeChef is the newest meal delivery service I have tried, and I love it so far! HomeChef is the least expensive meal delivery service available to the Atlanta area (by 4 cents) and offers some unique add-ons: Breakfast, Smoothie, and Fruit Basket. So far, the only add-on I have tried is the smoothie add-on, and it was fun to make and absolutely delicious!
Below are my thoughts on a few important food delivery metrics:
Meal Choice Options -
- 10 dinner choices (2 vegetarian options), 1 breakfast, 1 smoothie, and 1 fruit basket
- Unique regional and seasonal food options as well as traditional American family meals
- Allergy and dietary conscious options
Price -
- Dinner: $59.70 for 3 dinners ($9.95 per serving available in 2, 4, or 6 serving increments)
- Breakfast: $9.95 per serving
- Smoothie: $4.95 per serving
- Fruit Basket: $4.95 per serving
- Delivery: Free for orders greater than $40 and $10 for orders less than $40
Delivery Day Options - Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday
Order Deadline - Friday at 12pm CST
Packaging - External cardboard box, cooler insert, plastic bags for each meal and separately packaged meat. A few items were slightly squished but no major damage.
Quality/Portion Size - Fresh, high quality ingredients, enough food for lunch-portion leftovers
Cooking Experience - Fun and not too complex or lengthy, average 40 minutes cooking time, more complex recipes are mostly related to timing and multitasking
Recipe Card -
General Information:
Time to prepare - Accurate from my testing (my husband, a beginner cook, often requires an additional 20-30 minutes for all meal box preparations)
Complexity - Accurate from my experience
Days best cooked by - Very helpful for beginners in the kitchen
Included ingredients - Useful for repeating recipes
Ingredients not included - Often salt, pepper, and olive oil
Equipment needed - Pots, pans, blender, etc.
Dietary: Allergen information, low calorie/carb details, calories, carbs, fat, protein, sodium
Instructions: Straightforward instructions with photos of each step (6) that a beginner can easily follow - my husband loves the per-step photos
Extras: Drink pairings, links to recipe feedback website
Clean Up - Most recipes require a pot, pan, bowl, and cutting board. I was able to wash some dishes during idle time while food was cooking, so I wasn’t left with a pile of dishes.
Discount Code/Referral Program - Refer a friend and both you and your friend will receive $30 toward a box (link with my referral code)
Overall Thoughts - I will definitely try HomeChef again. While they offer the lowest price, I did not find any shortcomings compared to other meal boxes. What I like most about HomeChef is the smoothie add-on option and the 10 meal choice options. I am interested in trying breakfast, but I wish it was offered at a lower price than the dinner options.
