K Squared Meals Review
Jamie Temple
After trying a week of Good Measure Meals (see my review), I decided to try another Atlanta-based meal delivery service. I found K Squared Meals (www.ksquaredmeals.com), a Paleo meal service, on Yelp and decided to try it out. I was very disappointed that my expectations were not met, even in the slightest. The only upside is that Kevin, the owner, is very concerned with customer satisfaction and offered a full refund because of my horrible experience.
Convenience: Each week, a 6-day breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu is posted on the K Squared website (also emailed upon request). To order, you send an email indicating which meals you want and pay either using Venmo or by sending the owner your credit card information via email (I don’t recommend the latter). You can either pick up the meals from the owner’s house in East Atlanta or have the meals delivered. Meals are delivered in reusable rubbermaid containers that you are expected to rinse and return. Each container is marked with a sticker to indicate which day to eat each meal.
Quality: Things go downhill quickly when it comes to quality.
-The meals were delivered in reusable grocery bags, and some meals were tipped sideways and leaking upon arrival.
-With only one delivery/pickup day per week, freezing meals is required.
-The containers offer no division between parts of meals, so all flavors blend (think omelet flavored paleo bread).
-Portion sizes are very inconsistent, so I had to even out portions since we ordered two of each meal.
-Breakfast waffles were burned (black) yet soggy because syrup was added prior to packaging.
-The flavor of the meals was quite bad (my husband said that it tasted as if someone with no taste buds prepared the meals). Some parts of meals were inedible while others were bearable with added salt and pepper.
-After suffering through two days of meals, I was considering contacting the owner since I was so dissatisfied. After I opened the lunch for that day to give it one last shot, I found labels that were supposed to be affixed to the outside of containers inside mixed with the food (see bottom right photo). Since I know that containers are rinsed and returned for reuse, I was disgusted at the thought that someone’s partially rinsed container with stickers ended up in my kitchen ready for me to eat.
**I called the owner immediately after discovering the stickers and explained my concern about the quality and safety of the food, and he offered an apology and a full refund.
Price: Breakfast = $6 / Lunch = $7 / Dinner = $7 / Free pickup or paid delivery (it cost $15 to deliver to Smyrna)
Final Thoughts: I was extremely excited to try K Squared Meals, but was honestly disgusted with what it turned out to be. The owner seems to be a very nice guy, but I cannot recommend this service because I feel that the food quality is potentially unsafe and the food was not enjoyable at all.
